Rochester Chapter Annual Meeting By Ellen Statt Miller, President
On October 20, 2007, the Feast of Mater, the Rochester Alumnae gathered at the Inn on Broadway for our Annual Meeting. This was the first time we had changed our venue in many years and from all accounts, everyone enjoyed the change. This Inn is the former University Club and some of the alumnae recalled celebrating their Annual Dances at the University Club during their Senior School years.
Father Bernard McAniff celebrated Mass for us and gave a wonderful talk, not only on Mater, but on our relationship with her. Following Mass and the singing of our "Children of the Sacred Heart" hymn, we held our annual meeting. A great deal of time was spent on the upcoming Eastern Regional Meeting scheduled to be held in Rochester on June 20-22, 2008. The Regional Meeting will highlight the 2007-2009 biennium theme “Missionaries of the Heart – Here to Make a Difference”. Following the business meeting, we adjourned for wine, chatter and then a lovely luncheon.
We were most pleased with the turnout this year of "younger alumnae”. The anniversary classes of 1947, 1957 and 1967 were all represented and all were so pleased to be with one another, gathering in a circle prior to lunch and catching up on news with one another. They were most interested in the Regional Meeting and were full of questions.
Following the luncheon, the gathering was capped off with a wonderful talk by Sister Bunny Flick. Sister Flick was in Judy Scott Schurman's wedding many years ago and was so gracious with her time for us. She brought us up to date on Kenwood and Teresian House and then, after her talk, she told us that she is going to the West Coast to work with the elderly religious in Atherton, California.
The sun was setting as I returned to Fayetteville, confident that the Rochester Alumnae of the Sacred Heart were well on their way as "Missionaries of the Heart."
